Arts in Education

The Tanner Dance Arts in Education program reaches about 30,000 students and teachers a year through residencies, performances, workshops and published curriculum. The Side-By-Side Program sends trained dance specialists to over 20 schools each week to work with classroom teachers to integrate core curriculum into engaging dance classes. The Children’s Dance Theatre performs in assemblies at six schools a year and offers free concert matinees to thousands of students. Tanner Dance offers multiple professional development workshops throughout the year to teachers who are hoping to incorporate the arts into classroom learning. Adults with Disabilities Programs

Tanner Dance has created two programs for adults with disabilities:  Learning and Engaging through Arts Discipline and Development and Elevate Musical Theatre Company.

LEADD is a daytime program that provides training in the arts with a focus on cognitive, physical, emotional and personal development.

Elevate Musical Theatre Company meets weekly to produce a full performance in the spring. The program focuses on dance and music training and on building a supportive, engaging and active community.

Dancers with Disabilities Classes for Children and Young Adults

Every person deserves the opportunity to dance! Dancers with Disabilities classes are for children and young adults who wish to experience the joy of moving and self-expression. The class includes appropriate technique exercises for the whole body, and dancers explore shape, space, rhythm, and movement quality. Teachers use literature and other springboards that they creatively weave into the class. All classes have live accompaniment by experienced and engaging musicians. The DwD classes have the opportunity to perform at Kingsbury Hall in a year-end performance. Donate today to help support these classes!

Volunteer Opportunities

Dancers with Disabilities Class Assistants

We are looking for volunteers to participate in the Elevate Theatre Company throughout the school year. Volunteers will learn songs and dances and assist persons with disabilities in the company. Elevate Theatre Company rehearses Saturdays from 10:00-11:15 am, and volunteers should be able to attend most rehearsals throughout the year. Please contact marymartha.ostler@utah.edu to learn more.

Please contact joni.wilson@utah.edu if you’re interested in assisting with Saturday morning Dancers with Disabilities classes throughout the school year.

Summer Camps

Teens and adult can sign-up to help with summer camps. Volunteers will assist with classes, snack/lunch breaks, check-in/check-out, bus loading and unloading, art room supplies and projects, etc. Please contact diana.timothy@utah.edu if you are interested in helping out.

Stay tuned for more volunteer opportunities throughout the year!
