Summer Camps 2020

Summer Camps at Tanner Dance

Summer Camp Online

Due to the situation with COVID-19, the University of Utah has asked that we transition our summer programming to a virtual format. While this means our camps and classes will look different than usual, we are committed to providing the best quality experience for your dancer. Our stellar faculty is dedicated to creating materials and lessons that will be engaging, challenging, and fun. The last few weeks have provided our staff with a testing ground for how we can best teach and connect on a virtual platform. This summer’s new format is designed to provide innovative and joyous ways for your student to dance.

Preschool - Kindergarten:Each Arts for the Young camp week will run Monday-Friday, 8:45-9:45 AM virtually via Zoom. Camps will include dance, art, and creative writing as well as pre-recorded music classes to be enjoyed during the camp week. We highly encourage a parent to participate with the camper. Zoom links will be sent out Friday before each camp and the same link will be used to login every morning. Each camp will have a separate Zoom link.

1st - 12th Grade: All summer camps are streamlined into one camp per age group. Each age group will have access to a digital collection using Flip Grid which will include 2 weeks-worth of materials, video lessons, and projects rather than the usual one-week. The first week’s activities will be provided beginning June 1, and the second week’s activities will be provided beginning June 29. This virtual format will provide dancers and their families flexibility as far as time frame; lessons and activities can be completed within a week, or spaced out to last a month. Each camp collection will include dance technique, dance improvisation and composition, music or drumming, and visual art. Flip Grid makes it possible for dancers to share their creations with their teachers and peers, and receive feedback in a secure way. There will also be times set up when dancers can interact live with each other and their teacher through Zoom.

In addition to the digital collections, all camp participants 1st grade - 12th grade will have access to 8 weeks of live Zoom classes in June and July. These classes will expand dancers’ technical and creative skills and are divided by age:  1st-2nd grade, 3rd-4th grade, 5th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade, and 9th-12th grade. Dancers entering preschool through 4th grade will have class once per week, and dancers entering 5th-12th grade will have class twice per week.

**Age groups refer to the grade the dancer will be entering in Fall 2020** For example, if your child is currently in 2nd grade, they will register for camps for 3rd graders.

Cancellation/Refund Policy
  • Contact the office (tannerdance@utah.edu) within 10 business days of purchasing a camp to receive a full refund. After that time, a $15 cancellation fee will apply.
  • No refunds are given for missed online classes.
