Home Summer Camps 2023

Summer Camps at Tanner Dance

Tanner Dance offers week-long summer camps for preschool through high school students. Camps are designed as half or full day programs.

**Age groups refer to the grade the dancer will be entering in Fall 2023** For example, if your child is currently in 2nd grade, they will register for camps for 3rd graders.

ATTENTION CDT DANCERS! The camps listed here are not part of your CDT summer commitment. You are welcome and encouraged, however, to register and pay for any additional camps in addition to your required camp.  CDT camps are on specific dates (please refer to CDT eNews emails for more information). Those needing to substitute a camp need to contact the office directly at 801-581-7374.

University of Utah staff: If you have already set up your account for your staff discount, please log onto your account before registering for a camp.  If you have not yet set up your account for the University of Utah staff discount, please contact the office to set that up.  You will need a valid UNID ready when you call.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Camp Refund Policies

  • Contact the office within 10 business days of purchasing a camp to receive a full refund. After that time, a 20% cancellation fee will apply.
  • No refunds are given with less than 10 business days' notice prior to camp.
  • No refunds are given for missed days of camp.
  • Tanner Dance reserves the right to cancel any camp due to low enrollment. Camps cancelled by Tanner Dance will be fully refunded.

 

Summer 2023 Session: June 5 - August 4

Week 1

June 5-9

Arts for the Young: Discovering New Worlds - Blasting off to outer space, we will discover new world’s that have never been seen before. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, June 9th. More details to come.

To be Eligible for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2019.
To be Eligible for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2018.

Buggy for Bugs and Butterflies - Dig under the dirt, soar with your wings, crawl with your many legs, and explore the world of bugs! Dance, sing, and create art in a bug-filled week. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

French Summer Fun Camps - Come join us for a week of creativity in French! There will be songs to sing, games to play, stories to hear, music, physical exercise and lots of art! And, it will all be done entirely in French.

Please bring your own lunch and snack.

Week 2

June 12-16

Art in Bloom - Let your inner artist bloom in a week full of movement and art! Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Week 3

June 20-23

The Color Monster - The Color Monster camp will explore the world of a monster who has had all of its emotions mixed up. Based on the book Color Monster by Anna Llenas, we will untangle the web of feelings to try and help the monster find its true self. Families are invite to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Down the Rabbit Hole - “I wonder which way I ought to go…” Take a leap down the rabbit hole in dance, music, and art classes. As the week goes on it’s certain to get “curiouser and curiouser.” Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Tanner Sampler - Get a little taste of everything this summer! Start your day with modern technique to keep those dancing toes in shape. Then explore all Tanner Dance has to offer through different dance styles, music, and visual art. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Week 4

June 26-30

Arts for the Young: The Flashlight - This camp will explore the book, Flashlight by Lizi Boyd. We will uncover the forest world at night while using dark and light. We will use flashlights to reveal what is hidden in the dark. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Week 6

July 10-14

Arts for the Young: Fractured Fairy Tales - This camp will dive into the world of fractured fairy tales. From the wolf who thought he had a cold to learning about Red Riding Hood from the wolf perspective, this camp will have adventures from our most beloved fairy tales. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Tracy Aviary Partner Camp - Partner Camp with Tanner Dance

Cavorting, spinning, leaping, dancing a jig—all of these are things both humans and birds love to do! In this full-day camp, campers will spend mornings at Tracy Aviary exploring the different ways birds’ special sashays help them survive in their habitats. Campers will then spend afternoons at Tanner Dance engaging in dance, visual art and drama—all inspired by the motion of birds. Drop off campers at Tracy Aviary by 9am and pick up at Tanner Dance at 4pm. Transportation between sites provided.

Red Butte Garden and Tanner Dance team up to offer you a week full of adventure! We're offering different magical themes for ages Kindergarten through 7th Grade. Spend your mornings learning traditions and stories about your theme at Red Butte Garden, and the afternoon interpreting what you learned at Tanner Dance through dance and art! The week ends with a special performance, showcasing everything you have learned that week!

Week 7

July 17-21

Arts for the Young: It’s Not a Bed It’s a Time Machine - This camp we will explore the book, It’s Not a Bed It’s a Time Machine written by Micky Ratkin. It will take us on adventure after adventure discovering dinosaurs and all the other amazing places we want our imaginations to go. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

To be Eligible for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2019.
To be Eligible for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2018.

Mad Science - Experiment with dance, art, and music in our “Mad Science” camp! Put on your lab coat and get ready to make new discoveries. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Modern Dance - This camp will specifically focus on developing your technical ability as well as offering you some exposure to modern dance repertoire.  Come be challenged to gain some new skills and strengthen your dance ability.  Class time will include: Modern Dance technique class daily with improvisation followed with composition/choreography and repertoire classes.

Ballet I/II - (for dancers that have completed the Ballet I or Ballet II classes) Take your ballet technique and artistry to the next level.  This camp is designed to increase your technical ability with barre, center exercises, jumps, turns and repertoire.  Come learn some of the classic repertoire that you see on professional companies and gain strength and flexibility.

Ballet IV/Teen - (for dancers that have completed Ballet IV and/or Teen Ballet IV) Come join the corps! This ballet camp is designed to strengthen and maintain your technical ability. Classes will include barre, pointe, center exercises, turns, leaps and repertoire.

Week 8

July 25-28

Dancers with Disabilities - Our unique fine arts half-day camps will include dance, music, theatre, visual arts, and film. With our positive approach and engaging philosophy, this experience will be different from any other. Discover and celebrate your artistic capabilities!

Amazing Race - Grab your passport for a race around the globe! Dance, play music, and act as you experience the adventures the world has to offer. “The world is waiting for you. Good luck… travel safe… go!” Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

So You Think You Can Dance? - Prepare for your next audition and make the cut! Take technique classes in jazz, contemporary, hip-hop, and modern, expand your movement vocabulary in improvisation, and get feedback and tips on preparing an audition solo. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Week 9

July 31-August 4

Arts for the Young: Where the Wild Things Are - Based on Maurice Sendak’s story, Where the Wild Things Are, we will explore resilience. When Max meets the wild things, he will use his imagination to tame the beasts without one blink. Families and friends are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.

Pirates to Pixies - Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me! Sprinkle a little pixie dust and set sail on a magical, art-filled week. The days will fly by with dance, music, and drama classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday. More details to come.
