AUDITIONS: Tuesday, May 19 at Tanner Dance

All dancers entering 7th-12th grade are eligible to audition. Dancers do not need to be previously enrolled in classes at Tanner Dance. Dancers must register for the audition. Audition registration will only be accepted if all the requested information is completed. Please download and read this information before auditioning. 

There are three company levels:
In Motion – Beginning
Momentum – Intermediate
Tipping Point - Advanced

The audition is Tuesday, May 19 at Tanner Dance.
Incoming 7th - 8th grade dancers, 4:00 – 5:30 PM Register HERE
Incoming 9th – 12th grade dancers, 6:00 – 8:00 PM Register HERE

Tanner Dance is located at 1721 Campus Center Drive, SLC. Free parking will be available in the Tanner Dance lot, and on the top level of the Central Garage (parking structure to the south of the building).

Dancers should arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the audition. The audition will include technique, improvisation, and contemporary phrase work. Dancers must wear solid black dance clothes and tight-fitting black socks. Hair should be neatly pulled back. Parents are not allowed in the audition.

ABOUT THE CONTEMPORARY COMPANIES

The Tanner Dance Contemporary Companies are performing groups that train technically strong and versatile movers, engaging and confident performers, and inventive choreographers.

The Contemporary Companies train students for expert level concert dance performance rather competitive conferences. The curriculum focuses on contemporary technique, improvisation, and choreography in a variety of dance styles. The program is designed to be an elevated junior high and high school dance company experience. There are three levels in the program: In Motion (beginning), Momentum (intermediate) and Tipping Point (advanced).

Company members have been accepted to dance programs at the University of Utah, Utah Valley University, Brigham Young University, Philadelphia School for the Arts, Boston Conservatory, SUNY Purchase, the Bates Dance Festival, and Joffrey Ballet’s Summer Intensive. Many of the dancers have received Utah’s Dance Sterling Scholar Award, and several have gone on to professional careers in dance.

Program Highlights:
  • Work with national and international award-winning choreographers and university faculty. Past guests include Alice Klock, Nicholas Palmquist, Ching Ching Wong, Jeffrey Louizia, Micah Moch, Courtney Mazeika, Quincie Bean, and Ben Roeling.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary arts projects. Past projects include two evening-length works with original music composition, costumes, and set design, as well as multiple screendance projects with professional filmmakers from TWIG Media.
  • Choreograph your own work for performance.
  • Learn, create, and perform a large repertoire of pieces in multiple genres: contemporary, ballet, hip hop, jazz, musical theater, and cultural dance forms.
  • Gain skills to prepare for university and pre-professional programs – musicality, quick sequencing, improvisation, creative problem solving, partnering, performance, and choreography.
