Home Summer Camps 2024

Summer Camps at Tanner Dance

Tanner Dance offers week-long summer camps for preschool through high school students. Camps are designed as half or full day programs.

**Age groups refer to the grade the dancer will be entering in Fall 2024** For example, if your child is currently in 2nd grade, they will register for camps for 3rd graders.

ATTENTION CDT DANCERS! The camps listed here are not part of your CDT summer commitment. You are welcome and encouraged, however, to register and pay for any additional camps in addition to your required camp.  CDT camps are on specific dates (please refer to CDT eNews emails for more information). Those needing to substitute a camp need to contact the office directly at 801-581-7374.

University of Utah staff: If you have already set up your account for your staff discount, please log onto your account before registering for a camp.  If you have not yet set up your account for the University of Utah staff discount, please contact the office to set that up before registering for camp.  You will need a valid UNID ready when you call.

Camp Refund Policies

  • Contact the office within 10 business days of purchasing a camp to receive a full refund. After that time, a 20% cancellation fee will apply.
  • No refunds are given with less than 10 business days' notice prior to camp.
  • No refunds are given for missed days of camp.
  • Tanner Dance reserves the right to cancel any camp due to low enrollment. Camps cancelled by Tanner Dance will be fully refunded.

Week 1

May 28-31

Arts for the Young: The Umbrella Day - Inspired by the book The Umbrella Day by Nancy Evans Cooney students will explore a whole new world when an umbrella suddenly becomes a circus tent, a boat and even a tea party

To register for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2020.
To register for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2019.

Under the Microscope  - Zoom in on dance and visual art on this miniature, but hugely fun, week of dance, music, and art. Pay attention to the tiniest details and notice what becomes magnified once it's under the microscope. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

Week 2

June 3-7

Arts for the Young: In the Space of the Sky - Inspired from the book In the Space Of The Sky we will explore the tiniest snail to the immense blue sky. We will celebrate our astonishing world as well as the expanse of our dreams.

To register for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2020.
To register for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2019.

Farmyard Fables - Explore and create with characters from classic children's animal stories through the magic of dance, art and music. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

French Summer Fun Camps - Come join us for a week of creativity in French! There will be songs to sing, games to play, stories to hear, music, physical exercise and lots of art! All activities will be conducted in French.

Please bring your own lunch and snack.

Adaptive Needs Camp - Our unique fine arts half-day camps will include dance, music, theatre, visual arts, and film. With our positive approach and engaging philosophy, this experience will be different from any other. Discover and celebrate your artistic capabilities!

Week 4

June 18-21

Arts for the Young: Fairies and Pirates - In this camp dancers will create their own narrative about a battle between Fairies and Pirates. Ultimately they will discover they can both exist together in the same forest.

To register for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2020.
To register for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2019.

Seussville - Oh the places you'll go! Explore truffula trees, Whoville, the turtle pond, and more as we learn about the whimsical world of Dr. Suess through dance, art, and drama. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

Week 7

July 8-12

Arts for the Young: The Storytellers Handbook -Students will be guided to create their own stories based on the illustrations from the book, The Storytellers Handbook. Imaginations will not be limited by what is, they will soar into "what if?"

To register for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2020.
To be register for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2019.

Red Butte Garden and Tanner Dance team up to offer you a week full of adventure!  Camps for Kindergarten, 1st/2nd grade, 3rd/4th grade, and 5th-7th grade. Register for partner camp on the Red Butte Garden website beginning March 5th. Times and camp themes below.

Week 8

July 15-19

Arts for the Young: Nobody Hugs a Cactus - In the adventures from the book Nobody Hugs a Cactus we will explore what it means to be a good friend. We will meet lots of characters who help Hank the cactus realize he does care about those who live around him.

To register for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2020.
To be register for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2019.

Fabulous Fibonacci - Fibonacci spirals show up everywhere in nature, flowers, pinecones, hurricanes, galaxies and much more. Investigate the natural world through dance, art, and music. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

Week 9

July 22-26

Camp Cretaceous - Triceratops, Velociraptor, Tyrannosaurus oh my! Create music, art, and dance with the dinos in this fun filled camp exploring our earth from 66 million years ago. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

Jr. Dance Workshop - Join us for a week of strength training, dance technique class, and choreographic exploration. Come as you are, and leave with new skills! There will be no live showing for this camp, but families can expect a short video featuring student choreography sent home following camp on Friday.

Week 10

July 29-August 2

Arts for the Young: The Magic Hat Shop -One day, a hat shop mysteriously appears in a little town. Come join us for this delightful story about magic hats and bonnets and the importance of being yourself.

To register for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2020.
To register for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2019.

iSpy - I Spy with my little eye! Grab your magnifying glass and your detective gear. Solve picture riddles or create your own with music, art, and dance. Families are invited to a showing on Friday.

Modern Dance - This camp will specifically focus on developing your technical ability as well as offering you some exposure to modern dance repertoire.  Come be challenged to gain some new skills and strengthen your dance ability.  Class time will include: Modern Dance technique class daily with improvisation followed with composition/choreography and repertoire classes.

Ballet I/II - (for dancers that have completed the Ballet I or Ballet II classes) Take your ballet technique and artistry to the next level.  This camp is designed to increase your technical ability with barre, center exercises, jumps, turns and repertoire.  Come learn some of the classic repertoire that you see on professional companies and gain strength and flexibility.

Ballet IV/Teen - (for dancers that have completed Ballet IV and/or Teen Ballet IV) Come join the corps! This ballet camp is designed to strengthen and maintain your technical ability. Classes will include barre, pointe, center exercises, turns, leaps and repertoire.

French Summer Fun Camps - Come join us for a week of creativity in French! There will be songs to sing, games to play, stories to hear, music, physical exercise and lots of art! All activities will be conducted in French.
