Summer Camps at Tanner Dance

Tanner Dance offers week-long summer camps for preschool through high school students. Camps are designed as half or full day programs.

**Age groups refer to the grade the dancer will be entering in Fall 2022** For example, if your child is currently in 2nd grade, they will register for camps for 3rd graders.

ATTENTION CDT DANCERS! The camps listed here are not part of your CDT summer commitment. You are welcome and encouraged, however, to register and pay for any additional camps in addition to your required camp.  CDT camps are on specific dates (please refer to CDT eNews emails for more information). Those needing to substitute a camp need to contact the office directly at 801-581-7374.

University of Utah staff: To apply your University of Utah staff discount, please contact the office to register over the phone during business hours. You will need a valid UNID ready when you call to register.

Cancellation/Refund Policy

Camp Refund Policies

  • Contact the office within 10 business days of purchasing a camp to receive a full refund. After that time, a 20% cancellation fee will apply.
  • No refunds are given with less than 10 business days' notice prior to camp.
  • No refunds are given for missed days of camp.
  • Tanner Dance reserves the right to cancel any camp due to low enrollment. Camps cancelled by Tanner Dance will be fully refunded.

 

Summer 2022 Session: June 6- August 5

Week 1

June 6-10

Arts for the Young: If You Come to Earth - This camp is inspired by the book If You Come to Earth written by Sophie Blackall. In this camp we will be creating and imagining all the things we would want an alien to know about Earth. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, June 10th. More details to come.

To be Eligible for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2018.
To be Eligible for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2017.

Red Butte Garden and Tanner Dance team up to offer you a week full of adventure! We're offering different magical themes for ages Kindergarten through 7th Grade. Spend your mornings learning traditions and stories about your theme at Red Butte Garden, and the afternoon interpreting what you learned at Tanner Dance through dance and art! The week ends with a special performance, showcasing everything you have learned that week!

Under the Big Top - Come join us as we jump, leap and twirl into the circus! Through dance, drama and music, we will explore the sights and sounds of one of the most entertaining shows around! Families are invited to a showing on Friday, June 10th. More details to come.

French Summer Fun Camps - Come join us for a week of creativity in French! There will be songs to sing, games to play, stories to hear, music, physical exercise and lots of art! And, it will all be done entirely in French.

Please bring your own lunch and snack.

Week 2

June 13-17

Arts for the Young: Dragons, Monsters, and Super Powers - We will create a fantasy world where lost dragons help the humans gain superpowers to save their lands from sneaky monsters. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, June 17th. More details to come.

To be Eligible for the 3 ½ - Pre-K camp, your child must have a birthday on or before December 1, 2018.
To be Eligible for the Kindergarten camp, your child must have a birthday on or before August 31, 2017.

Week 3

June 20-24

Arts for the Young: Pirates and Fairies - In this camp dancers will create their own narrative about a battle between Fairies and Pirates. Ultimately they will discover they can both exist together in the same forest. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, June 24th. Week 4

June 27- July 1

Arts For the Young: Neverland! - Inspired by Peter, Wendy and the Lost Boys, this camp is the celebration of a child’s imagination. We will create a land where children never grow up. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, July 1st. More details to come.

DANCE NYC: A Broadway Intensive - Come get a taste of what is feels like to dance among the sights and sounds of NYC. This highly intensive dance camp will dive into the choreography and sounds of Broadway shows both past and present giving each participant an opportunity to expand their movement vocabulary and artistic skills. Students will be given the opportunity to experience different dance styles and see how vital dance is in musical theater. The camp will culminate in an evening show on Friday, July 1st.

Tracy Aviary Partner Camp - Partner Camp with Tanner Dance

Cavorting, spinning, leaping, dancing a jig—all of these are things both humans and birds love to do! In this full-day camp, campers will spend mornings at Tracy Aviary exploring the different ways birds’ special sashays help them survive in their habitats. Campers will then spend afternoons at Tanner Dance engaging in dance, visual art and drama—all inspired by the motion of birds. Drop off campers at Tracy Aviary by 9am and pick up at Tanner Dance at 4pm. Transportation between sites provided.

Week 6

July 11-15

Arts for the Young: The Umbrella Day - Inspired by the book The Umbrella Day by Nancy Evans Cooney students will explore a whole new world when an umbrella suddenly becomes a circus tent, a boat and even a tea party. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, July 15th. More details to come.

Heroes vs. Villains - Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a super artist! Summon your super powers in dance, music, and visual art while saving the world from villains. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, July 15th. More details to come.

Jazz & Hip Hop Intensive - Join us for a dynamic week of contemporary, jazz, and hip hop. Classes will focus on technique, rhythmic precision, stylization and the genre’s current trends. This will be a fun and challenging workshop for dancers new to jazz and hip hop, as well as for experienced dancers. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, July 15th. More details to come.

Week 7

July 18-22

Arts for the Young: The Wonder - Inspired by the book The Wonder by Faye Hanson we will become wonder seekers. Do you often walk down the street wondering why the stars shine, or what the best playground will look like? During this camp we will wonder about many of the world's questions, and create our own answers to imagine a whole new world. Skip, sing, and create in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, July 22nd. More details to come.

Blast Off! - 3, 2, 1, blast off! Join us on a journey to outer space and complete dance, visual art, and music missions before returning to Earth. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, July 22nd. More details to come.

Modern Dance - This camp will specifically focus on developing your technical ability as well as offering you some exposure to modern dance repertoire.  Come be challenged to gain some new skills and strengthen your dance ability.  Class time will include: Modern Dance technique class daily with improvisation followed with composition/choreography and repertoire classes.

Ballet I/II - (for dancers that have completed the Ballet I or Ballet II classes) Take your ballet technique and artistry to the next level.  This camp is designed to increase your technical ability with barre, center exercises, jumps, turns and repertoire.  Come learn some of the classic repertoire that you see on professional companies and gain strength and flexibility.

Ballet IV/Teen - (for dancers that have completed Ballet IV and/or Teen Ballet IV) Come join the corps! This ballet camp is designed to strengthen and maintain your technical ability. Classes will include barre, pointe, center exercises, turns, leaps and repertoire.

Week 8

July 26-29

Dancers with Disabilities - Our unique fine arts half-day camps will include dance, music, theatre, visual arts, and film. With our positive approach and engaging philosophy, this experience will be different from any other. Discover and celebrate your artistic capabilities!

Week 9

august 1-5

Time Travelers - Turn back the clock or dive into the future in an art-filled time machine. Skip, play, and paint through time in dance, music, and visual art classes. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, August 5th. More details to come. .

Once Upon a Time - Imagine yourself written in the pages of your favorite fairytales. Create your own "Once upon a time," in dance and visual art as you climb up a beanstalk, explore a land full of dragons, elves, and giants, or get turned into a pumpkin at midnight. Families are invited to a showing on Friday, August 5th. More details to come.

French Summer Fun - Come join us for a week of creativity in French! There will be songs to sing, games to play, stories to hear, music, physical exercise and lots of art! We'll be indoors and outdoors. And, it will all be done entirely in French.
